The Calabrians know the secrets of Bergamot (an aromatic citrus fruit) like no other. Bergamot trees span the Ionian coast and the fruit is renowned for its essential oil in the perfumery world. It has been a part of the local culture and lifestyle for centuries and not without good reason. 

The Calabrians not only use Bergamot as an essential oil that is mainly extracted from the skin, the juice and fibres are also used in their daily cuisine. Both are appreciated for their great health benefits. Bergamot has proven to support cardiovascular functions and improve blood flow, thanks to its extremely high and unique level of polyphenols, an essential element not found in other citrus varieties. 

The Kreglinger team was recently invited to the H&AD  – Herbal & Antioxidant Derivatives –  one of the top-ranking companies in Bergamot derivatives and natural products. At their facilities in Bianco, in the centre of Calabria, we were honoured to be able to experience the Calabrian love for Bergamot and discover the authentic Calabrian life.
