CBD, a passing hype or an upcoming classic?

You will have noticed that CBD is increasingly present in the cosmetic « street scene ». As is often the case with a rapidly emerging trend, the question arises as to whether it is a passing hype or is it becoming an established classic. In this specific case, there is also the fact that there is a very specific legislation that is still evolving.

Over the ages, cannabis is essentially known for it’s mind-altering properties and therefore been considered as illegal substance under current legislation.

Recent studies, mainly in medical research, have shown that besides THC (reduction of nausea, pain and muscle spasms, and improvement of sleep and appetite), the CBD – second wellknown cannabinoid- can be effective in treating symptoms of difficult-to-treat conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorder and antibiotic-resistant infections.

The step towards research for cosmetic use was therefore inevitable.

CBD is indeed an active substance and can have an effect in the muscles, in our immune cells and in the skin. It could help against eczema, acne, skin aging and itching, but due to too few controlled studies on patients, the evidence is still insufficient for the time being, although there is a strong catch-up movement.
